Richard Schönborn

Richard Schönborn was a chief coach of the German Tennis Federation (DTB) for more than 26 years. He is a founder of the teaching committee of the DTB and a co-founder of the sports-scientific advisory board of the DTB. He was responsible for the highest coaches’ education level of the DTB, which is the highest coaches’ education in German sport since 1975. Richard has been a lecturer in the coaches’ academy of the German Olympic Sports Association in Cologne and was also a founder and chairman of the coaches’ advisory board of the DTB. His research interests include kinematics, biomechanics, training methodology and physiology. Among other awards, in 2001 Richard received from the ITF president Francesco Ricci Bitti, the "Award for Services to the Game in Recognition of Long and Distinguished Service to the Game of Tennis". He was also responsible for the education of Boris Becker and Steffi Graf up to their formative teenage years and for many other top players of the DTB. Among others, he coached personally top players Sylvia Hanika and Bettina Bunge.
